Game Summary

The Edmonton Eskimos, on the strength of 28 first half points, defeated the Hamilton Tiger-Cats by a score of 46-8 last Wednesday in front of 24,356 fans at Commonwealth Stadium. Edmonton’s “Gizmo” Williams opened the scoring in the sixth minute of play as he caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from QB Damon Allen. Less than a minute after a Hamilton field goal attempt went wide, Edmonton counted its second major of the first quarter as Eddie Brown hauled in a 75-yard TD bomb from Allen to close out the first quarter. Hamilton then accounted for the rest of its scores with Paul Osbaldiston responsible for them all as he kicked a punt single, followed by field goals of 32 and 12 yards respectively. From then on, it was all Edmonton as Eddie Brown grabbed his second TD catch of the day with a 23-yard reception and Doug Parrish scooped up a fumble and rumbled 32 yards into the end zone. The second half was all Edmonton as they counted another 18 points, 17 of which came in the fourth quarter. Sean Fleming booted a 47-yard field goal which was followed by Williams’ second TD reception of the day, a 28 yard pass which made the score 39-8. The scoring was finished off on an interception which Don Wilson picked off and returned for 34 yards for the TD with just under 5 minutes remaining to make the final score 46-8 for the Esks.
