Memphis and Saskatchewan both went into this game hungry for their first win. The game turned out to be a defensive battle characterized by low scoring but Memphis fans went home happy following the first win in franchise history. The Mad Dogs scored the only points of the first quarter as kicker Joe Allison recorded two singles on missed field goals from 30 and 42 yards. Memphis added to their lead in the second quarter when Gary Anderson ran four yards for the major. The point after attempt failed on a fumble. The Roughriders opened their scoring late in the second quarter when Dave Ridgway missed a 38 yard field goal but recorded a single. At half time the Mad Dogs led the Roughriders 8 to 1. Saskatchewan’s defence did the only scoring in the third quarter as Ron Goetz sacked Damon Allen in the end zone for a safety. Early in the fourth quarter Memphis’ Allison made good on an 11 yard field goal. The final score ended 11 to 5 for Memphis as Allen conceded the safety as time ran out in the game.
