Game Summary

The home team, Edmonton Eskimos, were looking to extend their undefeated record to 3-0 with a win over the Shreveport Pirates. It was all Eskimos in the first three quarters, as they held the Pirates off the board until late in the fourth quarter. K Sean Fleming opened the scoring with a 34 yard field goal at 2:18 into the game. Four and a half minutes later, QB Kerwin Bell connected with Jim Sandusky from 6 yards out to score the first touchdown of the night. Fleming added the convert and closed out the first quarter scoring at 13:52 with a single on an unsuccessful field goal attempt from 37 yards out. Fleming added twelve points on four consecutive field goals in the second and third quarters, improving the Eskimos lead to 23-0. A 39 yard carry by WR Nick Mazzoli and an 18 yard pass to WR Shalon Baker set up the second touchdown of the game. 6:39 in the quarter, RB Lucius Floyd carried the ball 18 yards into the end zone, while Fleming added the point after. Five minutes later, QB Chris Vargas, who started the quarter for Edmonton, threw a 62 yard TD pass to LB Willie Pless increasing the Esks lead to 37-0. The Shreveport Pirates finally got on the scoreboard with 1:14 remaining on the clock. QB Mike Johnson who replaced Billy Joe Tolliver in the third, connected with WR Wayne Walker on a 14 yard pass, while K Bjorn Nittmo added the convert.
