After Week Three of the season the Mad Dogs and Rough Riders had equal 1 and 2 records. Statistically the teams seemed fairly evenly matched. The game promised to be an exciting game. The fans were kept on the edges of their seats right to the final seconds of the game as newly acquired kicker Donald Igwebuike kicked a 31 yard field goal for the win. Ottawa opened the scoring in the game at 5:33 of the first quarter when Shawn Moore threw a 30 yard TD pass to Odessa Turner. Memphis kicker Nick Mystrom missed two field goals from 54 yards and 29 yards but helped carve at Ottawa’s early lead with two single points. Terry Baker extended Ottawa’s lead by hitting a 39 yard field goal and Mystrom retaliated by hitting from 13 yards. The score at the half — Riders 10 – Dogs 5. The third quarter belonged to Memphis. Damon Allen threw a 15 yard pass to William Breedlove for a major. Later in the quarter Adrion Smith ran a punt return 94 yards for a touchdown giving Memphis the lead 19 to 10 at the end of the quarter. Ottawa’s comeback began with a 30 yard Terry Baker field goal early in the quarter. Mystrom missed his third field goal of four attempts for Memphis but added to their lead by scoring a single. Ottawa tied the game with 2:41 remaining in the game when Jay Macias hit Odessa Turner for his second TD reception of the game. With confidence fading in Mystrom, Memphis went to Igwebuike for the win late in the game — and he came through with a 31 yard field goal.
