Game Notes

Game Summary

The struggling Rough Riders headed west this week hoping to snap a 3 game losing streak against the B.C. Lions. B.C. proved to be too strong for Ottawa, leading throughout the game and totally dominating the fourth quarter, to come away with an easy victory. Lui Passaglia kicked two field goals in the first quarter to give B.C. the early lead. Ottawa kicker Terry Baker punted into the end zone to put a single on the board for Ottawa. B.C. took advantage of an interception by Charles Gordon. Zedrick Robinson ran the ball in from the 14-yard line for the major. Passaglia converted the play. B.C.’s defence continued to play a huge role in the game as Tom Europe recovered a fumble by Michael Richardson. Four plays later Sean Millington ran the ball in from the 1-yard line. The convert attempt was blocked by cornerback Mark Ricks. Baker again put points on the board for Ottawa hitting a 27 yard field goal. B.C. went into the locker room at half time leading 19 to 4. The teams swapped singles in the third quarter as Passaglia and Baker both missed field goal attempts. Ottawa defensive tackle scored the Rough Riders’ only touchdown of the game running back a fumble recovery. The runback by John Kropke covered 2 yards. The convert attempt failed. From here on, the game belonged to the Lions. On the next play Eddie Thomas ran the kick off back 98 yards for a touchdown. Passaglia kicked the convert. Minutes later Gordon notched his second interception of the game and ran it back for a touchdown. Again, Passaglia’s kick was good. QB Danny McManus and SB Darren Flutie hooked up for B.C.’s first passing touchdown of the game. The play covered 15 yards and capped an eight play drive. Linebacker Brian Forde recovered an Ottawa fumble to give B.C. possession again. Four plays later, Robinson ran in from the 3-yard line for his second major of the game. Passaglia hit the convert to make the final score B.C. 48 – Ottawa 11.
