Game Notes

Game Summary

The second overtime game of the night was played at B.C. Place Thursday night. The battle pitted two of the Leagues hottest quarterbacks facing off for the first time this season. Fans were not disappointed as they witnessed over 800 yards passing from the two QBs. The Lions opened the scoring on their first drive of the game. Sean Millington ran the ball in from the 1-yard line for a touchdown. League all-time leading scorer Lui Passaglia kicked the convert. On B.C.’s next possession, Passaglia booted a 45 yard field goal to give the Lions an early 10 to 0 lead. With no time left on the clock in the first quarter, ’Cuda quarterback Matt Dunigan threw a 26 yard pass to Marcus Grant for a touchdown. Birmingham kicker Franco Grilla converted the play. Passaglia kicked his second field goal of the game at 6:35 of the second quarter from 33 yards out to extend B.C.’s lead. Late in the half, Millington ran in his second TD of the night, this time from the 12-yard line. Passaglia again kicked the convert. The scoring slowed in the third quarter with only one point being put on the board. Barracuda kicker Grilla missed wide on a 35 yard field goal attempt to record the single. Passaglia made good on his third of three attempts for the game to give B.C. what seemed to be a commanding lead. Birmingham mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter. Marcus Grant capped an 11 play drive that covered 95 yards with a 20 yard touchdown reception. Jason Phillips caught a pass from Dunigan to record a two-point convert. The ’Cudas next scoring drive took 11 plays and covered 69 yards. Dunigan ran the ball in from the 1-yard line for the touchdown. Grilla’s one-point convert kick sent the game to overtime. The play belonged to B.C. in overtime. Cory Philpot took the ball in from the 2-yard line to score a touchdown. Passaglia’s point after gave the Lions a 7 point lead. Dunigan and the powerful ’Cuda offence was shut down the rest of the way by a tough B.C. Lion defence. The victory game the Lions sole possession of second place in the Northern Division at the end of week six.
