Game Notes

Game Summary

The Southern Division leading Baltimore Stallions hosted the Memphis Mad Dogs in front of 31,221 fans at Memorial Stadium. The fans came expecting to see these two high powered offences battle it out but ended up watching a kickers dual between the Mad Dogs’ Nick Mystrom and the Stallions’ Carlos Huerta. Mystrom made his first of the game from 29 yards out on Memphis’ first possession of the game. Huerta tied the game for Baltimore from 50 yards out. Memphis fought back taking the ball to Baltimores’ 32-yard line leaving a 39 yard field goal for Mystrom. Again, Huerta tied the game with a long field goal. This time a 52 yard attempt. The first touchdown of the game came after Rickey Foggie engineered a drive beginning from the Memphis 12-yard line. Running back Charles Miles took the ball in from the 5-yard line for the score and Mystrom hit the point after. Huerta made two more field goals in the second quarter to bring Baltimore back in the game. The first was a 40 yard attempt and the second came from 46 yards. Mad Dog defensive end Alex Gordon scored a safety sacking QB Tracy Ham in his own end zone. The Memphis defence shut down the Stallions during the fourth quarter while the offence continued to put points on the board. Full back Bruce Perkins ran the ball in for Memphis from the 23-yard line and Mystrom converted to give the Mad Dogs a 10 point lead. Mystrom hit his third FG of the night to extend the lead to 13 points. Baltimore tried to fight back late in the game but it was too little too late. Huerta’s fifth field goal of the game was not enough as the ‘under’Dogs earned the win.
