Game Notes

Game Summary

QB Matt Dunigan came through for the Barracudas Saturday throwing 4 TD passes and taking 1 in himself. His 300 yards passing led the ’Cudas to a decisive 50 to 24 victory over the Bombers. The first quarter started slowly with Winnipeg taking lead at the end of the first quarter following three field goals by Troy Westwood from 48, 29, and 45 yard respectively. Birmingham’s scored only 2 points, one on a Luis Zendejas missed field goal and the other on a 62 yard Scott Player punt. Birmingham began their comeback with a 45 yard Zendejas field goal. Dunigan’s 4 yard TD pass to Maclin Cody and 45 yard TD pass to Jason Phillips, both converted by Zendejas, gave Birmingham a firm lead. Westwood hit a 28 yard field goal with no time on the clock in the second quarter and opened the third quarter scoring with a 52 yard field goal. Dunigan continued his hot game carrying the ball in from the 1-yard line for a touchdown. Later in the quarter Dunigan threw a 20 yard pass to Marcus Grant giving Birmingham a commanding 33 to 15 lead at the end of the third quarter. Westwood could not continue his perfect field goal record during the fourth quarter. He missed 47 and 51 yard attempts, but did score singles on both tries. ’Cuda kicker Zendejas made his second field goal of the game, this time on a 34 yard attempt. Dunigan’s fourth TD pass went to RB Keith Woodside covering 13 yards. Zendejas kicked the point after. Birmingham brought in second string QB Jimmy Klingler to close the game for Dunigan. Klingler threw a 5 yard pass to Eddie Britton to continue the ’Cuda dominance on the field. Zendejas’ convert rounded out Birmingham’s scoring. Steve Pelluer hit Jamie Holland with a 33 yard pass as time ran out on the Blue Bombers in the fourth quarter. Westwood made the convert but it wasn’t going to be enough against Matt Dunigan and the powerful ’Cuda team.
