Game Summary

Ottawa desperately needed a win to move out of the basement in the Northern Division. Edmonton, in their second game of the week, seemed to be perfect targets playing in front of 20,000 fans in Ottawa’s Frank Clair Stadium. Ottawa QB Jay Macias got the Roughies going early throwing a 72 yard bomb to Kerry Brown. Lammle converted giving Ottawa the early 7 to 0 lead. At the midway point of the first quarter Edmonton kicker Sean Fleming hit a 29 yard field goal to get Edmonton on the board. Edmonton and Ottawa swapped safeties in the second quarter on a field goal attempt and a punt attempt respectively. Fleming brought Edmonton within one point going in to half-time on a 13 yard field goal. Following no scoring in the third quarter, Fleming hit three consecutive field goals giving the Eskimos a 17 to 9 lead. Ottawa fought back late in the game. Sammy Garza carried the ball in from the 2-yard line for a touchdown. The ensuing 2-point convert attempt to tie the game failed. However, Ottawa got another chance. Newly acquired kicker Wayne Lammle endeared himself to the 20,000 Rough Rider faithful by booting a 39 yard game winning field goal with only 0:02 on the clock. The win moved Ottawa into a three way tie for fifth place in the North.
