Game Notes

Game Summary

The battle between the fourth and fifth place teams in the Northern Division this weekend only served to extend the difference between the two clubs. Edmonton entered the game with a firm 6 point lead over Winnipeg. The victory made that margin 8 points. RB Eric L. Blount led the charge for the Eskimos. Blount opened the scoring with a 6 yard touchdown run very early in the game. Sean Fleming kicked the single point as he did for all nine Edmonton touchdowns. Winnipeg came back with a 47 yard field goal by Troy Westwood. Blue Bomber RB Blaise Bryant took the lead for Winnipeg with a 16yard TD run. Westwood kicked the convert. With time running out in the first quarter, Eskimo QB Chris Vargas hit Marc Tobert with a 21 yard touchdown pass to regain the lead for Edmonton. From this point on Edmonton did not look back, scoring seven more touchdowns. Four of these were by Blount by way of a 60 yard punt return, a 9 yard pass reception, a 10 yard rush, and a 23 yard rush. Morris Lolar also scored a TD for the Eskimos on a 72 yard return following an interception of a Kevin McDougal pass. WR Nick Mazzoli got on the scoresheet taking a 15 yard pass from Kerwin Bell into the end zone. Jim Sandusky also caught a Bell pass for a TD. This passing play covered 12 yards. The only other scoring of the game came when Fleming sent a 72 yard kickoff into the end zone for a single. Eric Blount had a career game scoring 3 rushing TDs, 1 receiving TD, and 1 punt return TD.
