Game Summary

The Birmingham Barracudas kicker Luis Zendejas tied a CFL best for this season kicking 6 field goals which led the way as the ’Cudas devoured the Ottawa Rough Riders. To open scoring in the first quarter Zendejas kicked three field goals from 40, 43, and 20 yards respectively. Just before the first quarter ended, QB Matt Dunigan connected with Schredrick Austin on a 41 yard passing play for a TD. Zendejas kicked the convert. The only scoring of the second quarter was a 19 yard Zendejas field goal giving the Barracudas a 19 to 0 lead at half time. Dunigan teamed up with Marcus Grant on a 37 yard passing play to open the second half scoring. Again, Zendejas kicked the convert. Zendejas’ fifth FG came at the 7:54 mark of the third quarter from 17 yards out. Wayne Lammle put Ottawa on the score sheet hitting a 26 yard field goal. With no time on the clock in the third quarter, Zendejas missed a 43 yard field goal attempt but recorded a single. Maclin Cody of the ’Cudas was the recipient of Dunigan’s third TD pass of the game. The 4 yard strike, along with Zendejas’ field goal gave Birmingham a 34 point lead. The only bright spot of the day for Ottawa came at the 8:46 mark of the fourth quarter. Mark Ricks returned Scott Player’s punt 97 yards for a touchdown. Ottawa attempted a two-point convert but failed. Zendejas topped his outstanding night with a 22 yard field goal. The final score from Legion Field in Birmingham, Barracudas 40 — Rough Riders 9.
