Game Summary

The B.C. Lions opened the season at home hosting a veteran Edmonton Eskimo team. The Lions scored first when all-time scoring leader Lui Passaglia sent a 47 yard field goal attempt through the uprights. Edmonton tied the game mid-way through the second quarter with a 16 yard Frank Jagas field goal. Passaglia gave the Lions a one point lead heading into the locker room for half-time with a 61 yard punting single. The Eskimos exploded in the third quarter scoring three unanswered TDs. Fullback Tony Burse scored two of the touchdowns on runs of 18 and 1 yards. The other major was scored as Danny McManus scampered in from the 5-yard line. Jagas converted all three touchdowns for the Eskimos. Facing a huge deficit, the Lions managed put a field goal on the board early in the fourth. Passaglia hit from 46 yards out for the Lions. Jagas scored his second field goal as a CFL kicker with a 35 yard field goal for the Eskimos. The Lions Andre Ware threw his first TD pass as a Lions with Mike Trevathan on the receiving end of the 12 yard play. Passaglia kicked the convert. Edmonton punter Glenn Harper rounded out the scoring for the game with a 58 yard single. The point gave the Eskimos a decisive 28 to 14 win over the Lions.
