Game Notes

Game Summary

Montreal and Saskatchewan are both battling for respectability within their divisions. As a result, Sunday’s match up had a lot on the line for both teams. Saskatchewan scored following their first possession as K Frank Jagas missed a 48 yard attempt and scored a single. The Roughriders capitalized on their next possession as well. RB Robert Mimbs topped a 101 yard drive with a 1 yard touchdown run. The snap on the ensuing convert was fumbled not allowing Jagas to get a kick away. In the second quarter, Montreal P/K Terry Baker sent a 56 yard punt into the end zone where Aaron Ruffin conceded the single. Mimbs recorded his second touchdown of the game minutes later. Mimbs took the ball in from the 20, capping another impressive drive for the ’Riders. Jagas kicked the convert. Montreal battled back to score their first major of the game when Norman Bradford carried the ball in from the 12-yard line. Baker sent the extra point through for the Alouettes. Jagas padded the lead for Saskatchewan before heading into the locker room at half time as he sent a 21 yard field goal attempt through the uprights. Half time adjustments by Coach Bob Price turned the tide for the Alouettes. Montreal shut down the Saskatchewan offence and countered with 24 points of their own. Montreal’s second TD of the game was a 29 yard pass from Tracy Ham to Norman Bradford. Baker kicked the convert. Montreal made the best of a strange play later in the quarter. Baker was in to attempt a 20 yard field goal with backup QB Jimmy Kemp holding. A bad snap sent Kemp on the run. He spotted LB Paul Randolph open just inside the end zone and hit him with a 13 yard pass for a touchdown. Baker’s convert gave Montreal a 5 point lead. Saskatchewan closed the gap early in the final stanza as Jagas made good on a 33 yard field goal attempt. Alouettes QB Tracy Ham kept his impressive game going moving the ball 68 yards ending in a 12 yard pass to Chris Armstrong. Baker sent the convert through the uprights. Late in the quarter, Baker iced the game for the Als by sending a 27 yard field goal through. The final score: Montreal 32, Saskatchewan 20. Montreal moves in to a tie for second place going into their bye week.
