Game Notes

Game Summary

The Montreal Alouettes are definitely a team on the move. Having won their two previous games, they seem to be getting stronger with each outing. This game was a rematch of last week’s contest between the Western ’Riders and the Alouettes. The game began slowly with Montreal K Terry Baker scoring a single on a missed field goal from 32 yards out. Saskatchewan took a 9 point lead in the second with a 38 yard field goal from Frank Jagas and fumble recovery for a touchdown by Bryce Bevill. Bevill recovered the ball after Tommie Smith had returned an interception 53 yards to the goal line before fumbling. The Jagas convert accounts for the Roughrider’s 9 point lead at half-time. The two teams traded field goals in the third as Baker hit from 12 yards out for the Alouettes and Jagas made good from the 22 for the Roughriders. Alouette P/K Baker made 1 point up when he sent a 60 punt into the end zone for a single. With 2:44 remaining to play in the game, Montreal QB Tracy Ham connected with Chris Armstrong for a 15 yard passing touchdown. The offence stayed in the game to try the 2-point convert and tie the game. Ham hit RB Norman Bradford with a 5 yard pass to knot the game at 13. In the first overtime game of the season it was Jagas who would score first sending a 17 yard field goal attempt through for an early Saskatchewan lead. Montreal tied the game early in the second overtime half with a 52 yard field goal from the foot of Baker. As time was drawing to a close in overtime, Tracy Ham spotted some running room and scampered 57 yards for the winning touchdown. Baker kicked the convert to make the final 23 to 16 in favour of the Alouettes. The win has moved the Alouettes into second place in the East.
