Game Notes

Game Summary

The Lions entered this game needing a win to remain in the hunt for a playoff position, meanwhile the Eskimos were hot on the trail of the Calgary Stampeders for the Western Division title. The Eskimos got the ball rolling at 8:16 of the opening frame with as P Glenn Harper recorded a 62 yard punting single. The Eskimos added to their lead at 12:31 when SB Darren Flutie corralled a QB Danny McManus pass for a 25 yard TD. K Sean Fleming added the convert giving Edmonton a 8-0 lead after one quarter of play. They kept the momentum going early in the second frame when RB Eric Blount scored from 8 yards out just 59 seconds into the quarter. Fleming’s convert attempt was good. Flutie increased the Eskimos lead at 4:33 when he scored his second major of the game, this one a 48 yard catch. The Fleming convert made the score 22-0. A B.C. safety and single would account for all of their first half scoring as the Eskimos went to the locker room on top by 19. B.C. K Lui Passaglia accounted for all of the third quarter scoring as he booted FGs of 49,17 and 41 yards to cut the Eskimo lead to 13 after three periods of play. The Green and Gold rebounded at 7:47 of the fourth quarter when Flutie was on the receiving end a QB Cody Ledbetter 10 yard TD pass. This was Flutie’s third TD of the game. Fleming added the convert and connected on a 45 yard FG with just 32 seconds remaining to make the final from Commonwealth Stadium, Edmonton 32, B.C. 12.
