Game Notes

Game Summary

It was an important West Division battle this week in BC Place Stadium as the Lions played host to the Edmonton Eskimos. BC was looking for their first win over the Eskimos this year and they got off to the start they were looking for when SB Eddie Brown corralled a 14-yard pass from QB Damon Allen 9:02 into play of the opening quarter. K Lui Passaglia’s convert made the score 7-0. In the second period Edmonton rebounded when QB Dave Archer found WR Myron Wise in the end zone for a 22-yard play. K Sean Fleming’s convert tied the game at 7 at 3:17. At 8:01 Passaglia fired his first FG of the night giving the lead back to the Leos. The lead was short lived, however, as Archer threw his second TD pass of the game, this time a 3-yard bullet to SB Don Blair at 11:49. Fleming’s convert was successful. With 28 seconds remaining in the half Passaglia was good on a 39-yard FG making the score 14-13 Edmonton heading into the locker-rooms. In the third quarter, Fleming’s 47-yard FG at 12:51 marked the only scoring to increase Edmonton’s lead to 4 points. Edmonton’s defence accounted for the first score in the fourth period, when DB Trent Brown scooped up SB Sean Graham’s fumble and returned it 49 yards for the major to make the score 24-13 after Fleming’s convert at 7:38. B.C tried to battle back but Passaglia’s 44-yard FG attempt missed, scoring a single point. Fleming, meanwhile, nailed a 44-yard attempt padding Edmonton’s lead to 13 points. QB Danny Barrett, who replaced Allen in the fourth quarter, found SB Rod Harris over the goal-line for an 8-yard scoring play at 14:56, but it was not nearly enough as the Edmonton Eskimos went on to win the game by a 27-21 score. The win marked a season sweep for the Eskimos against the Lions and bumped their record to 7-5 for the year
