Game Summary

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers scored 23 first-half points and went on to defeat the visiting B.C. Lions 36-14 in front of 20.665 home town fans last Saturday night in Winnipeg. The Bombers opened the scoring as Troy Westwood connected on a 45-yard and a 19-yard FG to give the Bombers an early 6-0 lead. Sean Millington gave the Lions their only lead of the game as he returned a fumble 25 yards for a TD making the score 7-6 in favour of the Lions after one frame. The Bombers’ offence got jump started in the second half as they put 17 unanswered points on the board. Chris Johnstone opened the scoring with a 1-yard TD run with Westwood adding the convert before Matt Dunigan hooked up with Nathaniel Bolton for a 57-yard major. Westwood then added the convert and then chipped in with a 47-yard FG to give the Bombers a 23-7 half-time lead. Rookie sensation Blaise Bryant galloped 68 yards for a TD to open the third quarter scoring while Westwood added the convert and a 45-yard FG to give them a 33-7 lead after three frames. Mike Trevathan opened up the fourth quarter scoring hauling in an 18-yard pass from Danny McManus. The Lui Passaglia convert made the score 33-14. Westwood added a 50-yard FG to make the final score 36-14 in favour of the Bombers.
