Game Summary

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers scored 14 4th quarter points to complete their comeback and defeat the visiting Ottawa Rough Riders 21-18 last Friday in front of 19,030 damp spectators at Winnipeg Stadium. Winnipeg kicker Troy Westwood opened the scoring with a 32-yard FG which was all of the scoring in the 1st quarter. Westwood gave the Bombers an early 4-0 lead in the second quarter as he booted a 47-yard single. Rough Rider kicker Terry Baker got them on the scoreboard with a 21-yard FG to close the gap to one but Westwood added another FG, this time from 43 yards out, to give the Bombers a 7-3 lead. Baker added a single off a 48-yard punt to make the score at the half 7-4 in favour of the Bombers. Baker opened the second half scoring with 7 points, a 28-yard single off a missed FG, a 35-yard FG and a 11-yard FG to give the Riders an 11-7 edge after 3 frames. Ottawa increased their lead 10:06 info the 4th quarter as WR Wayne Walker hooked up with QB Tom Burgess for a 26-yard TD, but the Bombers stormed back as LB Greg Battle made a spectacular one-handed interception and returned it 34 yards for the major. With the missed convert the Bombers trailed by just 4 with 8:12 remaining to play. Winnipeg completed the comeback as Allan Boyko ran under a 27-yard Matt Dunigan pass with just 4 seconds on the clock to make the final score 21-18.
