Game Notes

Game Summary

The Toronto Argonauts travelled into B.C. Place last Thursday evening in search of their 1st road victory in 12 tries. There to greet them how ever was one Danny Barrett, who single-handedly put to rest any chances the Argonauts had of winning this contest. Barrett led the Lions to a 55-38 win over Toronto and in the mean time set a new CFL record for Most Passing Yards in One Game as he threw for 601 yards. It did not take long for the Lions’ offence to get on track as on the 3rd play of the game, Sean Millington grabbed a little dump pass and scampered 70 yards for the TD then Cory Philpot, the Lions’ outstanding rookie RB, put them up by 14 as he plunged in from 1 yard out. With the Argonauts’ starting QB Mike Kerrigan on the sidelines with a broken collar bone, it was up to Tracy Ham to come in and get the Run and Shoot gunning. And gunning he did as Ham led the Argos down the field and then took it in himself from 7 yards out to get Toronto on the scoreboard. Mike Trevathan scooped up a ball fumbled by Millington and continued on into the end-zone to put the Lions up by 14 at the end of the 1st quarter. Toronto K Lance Chomyc and his B.C. counterpart, Lui Passaglia, traded FGs to round out the 2nd quarter. Ham once again took matters into his own hands and ran it in from 15 yards out for his second major of the game. Millington then hooked up with Barrett for a 15-yard TD strike before Ham and WR Manny Hazard countered with a 46-yard pass and run for the TD making the score 31-24 in favour of the Lions at the half. Toronto scored the only points of the 3rd period as Robert Clark hooked up with Ham for a 19-yard TD to tie the game at 31 each after 3 periods of play. Passaglia put the Lions out in from 8 seconds into the 4th quarter with an 18-yard FG but the Argos stormed back with Tracy Ham running in from 11 yards out for his 3rd major of the game. Barrett put the Lions up once again, this time for good, running it in himself from 1-yard out. The Lions put the game out of reach as Trevathan hooked up with Barrett for a 29-yard TD to make the score 48-38 in favour of the Lions. SB Matt Clark added a little more insurance at 10:57 as he ran under a 55-yard Barrett toss to make the final 55-38 B.C. in front of 24,691 at B.C. Place.
