Game Summary

The Calgary Stampeders stretched their record to 7-0 with their 21-7 victory over the visiting Ottawa Rough Riders which was seen by 24,153 Stampeder faithful last Saturday in Calgary. The Stampeders, who are just 4 games shy of setting a new CFL record for Most Wins at the Start of a Season, tallied the only points of the 1st half as Mark McLoughlin booted a 30-yard FG and added a single to send the Stampeders into the locker room with a slim 4-0 lead. It wasn’t until 11:57 into the 3rd quarter that the first TD of the game was scored as Calgary quarterback Doug Flutie hooked up with slotback Dave Sapunjis for a 20-yard TD strike. This gave the Stampeders a 11-0 lead after 3 periods of play. The Stamps increased their lead to 18 points as Flutie scampered into the end-zone from 11 yards out. Ottawa quarterback Terrence Jones was then trapped in the end-zone to give Calgary the safety and a 20-0 lead. The Rough Riders finally got on the board as QB Tom Burgess hooked up with Jock Climie for a 60-yard TD narrowing the gap to 20-7. Mark McLoughlin added another single with just 18 seconds left giving the Stamps a 21-7 victory. On the day Flutie was 28-of-46 for 322 yards with 1 interception and 1 TD pass while Allen Pitts had a very impressive day, adding to his League-leading pass receiving totals.
