Game Summary

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers completed their Western swing last Saturday in Sacramento, coming away with a 30-18 win over the hometown Gold Miners, avenging their 48-28 loss earlier in the week at the hands of the B.C. Lions. 15,509 spectators watched as the Blue Bombers got on the board first when kicker Troy Westwood booted 2 FGs, the 1st from 12 yards out and the other coming from 22 yards away. Westwood added his 3rd FG of the game as he connected on a 29-yarder to open up the 2nd quarter scoring. The Bombers increased their lead to 16-0 as QB Matt Dunigan hooked up with slotback Gerald Wilcox for a 13-yard TD. The Gold Miners then got on the board putting up 11 straight points as kicker Jim Crouch added a 58-yard single off a missed FG, then added a FG from 12-yards out to make the score 17-4. Mike Oliphant capped off a 2-play drive hooking up with quarterback David Archer for a 78-yard TD with 30 seconds remaining in the half. The Bombers got the ball back with 30-seconds left in the half and quickly went to work with a 3-play and 1 penalty drive capped off by a 11-yard pass from Dunigan to David Williams to make the score 23-11 at the half. The Bombers opened up the 4th quarter scoring, after a scoreless 3rd quarter, as Williams ran under a 34-yard Dunigan pass for the major giving the Winnipeg a 30-11 lead. Sacramento attempted to make a comeback as Oliphant teamed up with Archer for his 2nd pass receiving TD of the game, this one a 69-yard pass. This however, was the end of the comeback for the Miners as the Bombers held on for a 30-18 victory.
