Game Notes

Game Summary

In front of a home crowd of 33,032, the largest in Roughrider history, Saskatchewan came from behind to beat the Sacramento Gold Miners by a score of 26-23 last Friday at Taylor Field. Although the 1st quarter was scoreless, Sacramento seemed to find its groove in the 2nd when QB David Archer hit Rod Harris with a 14-yard pass for a TD and then Mike Oliphant for another just under 3 minutes later. Sacramento padded its lead with a pair of singles by Jim Crouch before Dave “Robo Kicker” Ridgway put Saskatchewan on the board with a 48-yard field goal to close out the half. To open the second half, Saskatchewan’s Ray Elgaard brought down a 27-yard pass from QB Kent Austin to bring the score to 16-10 for the Miners. Jim Crouch then countered for Sacramento by booting a single and two field goals of 22 and 21 yards respectively. The 4th quarter belonged completely to the Roughriders however as they put 1 TD and 3 FGs on the board to erase Sacramento’s lead and put them in front to stay. Don Narcisse was on the receiving end of Kent Austin’s 2nd TD pass of the day which came from 19 yards out, and Dave Ridgway put the finishing touches on with kicks of 23, 46 and 50 yards - the last with no time showing on the clock and giving Saskatchewan a 26-23 victory.
