Game Notes

Game Summary

in front of a season high crowd of 28,915 at SkyDome in Toronto, the Argonauts greeted their new head coach Bob O’Billovich with a win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Argos seemed to be piecing their game together in the first quarter as Winnipeg K Troy Westwood hit for 2 field goals of 35 and 37 yards to give the Blue Bombers the early lead. Toronto finally found their groove as they scored 11 consecutive points on the basis of a single, a 35-yard Lance Chomyc field goal and a 16-yard touchdown rush from QB Tracy Ham who was inserted in the first quarter when QB Reggie Slack went down after being hit on the left knee. Winnipeg came back to close out the second quarter by scoring a TD when Nathaniel Bolton pulled in a 41-yard pass from QB Matt Dunigan, who was 18-for-33 for 230 yards with 2 TDs and an interception. The 3rd quarter belonged all to Toronto as they hit for 14 points on two TDs, one on a rush of 10 yards from RB Mike “Pinball” Clemons and the other on a 61-yard pass reception from Ham to WR Robert Clark. Winnipeg came back to open the 4th with a 2 yard Dunigan rush yet Toronto responded to that by hitting for a 20-yard Chomyc field goal and another Ham TD, this one on a 9-yard carry. Winnipeg scored one last time, when Dunigan hit SB Gerald Wilcox for a 29-yard major but it wasn’t enough as Toronto held on to win 35-26.
