In the battle for sole possession of 3rd place in the CFL Eastern Division, the Toronto Argonauts and Ottawa Rough Riders met at Frank Clair Stadium in front of 24,631 fans. After a scoreless 1st quarter, both teams seemed to find their offensive grooves in the 2nd as they struck for 30 points combined. Ottawa opened the 2nd quarter by striking for the day’s first major as QB Tom Burgess found SB Jock Climie on a 23-yard throw but Toronto had an answer in mind when QB Tracy Ham hooked up with SB Wally Zatylny for a 29-yard effort of their own. Ottawa followed up by sending K Ray Macoritti out to fire a 21-yard blast through the posts and Burgess decided to add insult to the injury by finding Climie for his 2nd major of the evening on an 89-yard bomb which left the Toronto secondary way behind the action. Toronto scored with 5 seconds left in the half as Ham hit SB Manny Hazard with a 3-yard pass to make the score 16-14 in favour of Ottawa at the half. The 3rd half opened with Toronto scoring a single and hitting for another major when RB Pat Jackson rushed in from 7 yards out. However, the Ottawa defence was able to close out the Argonauts in the 4th quarter while the offence scored 14 points of its own as FB Shawn Daniels took it in from 1 yard out and WR Stephan Jones was on the receiving end of a 76-yard reception from Burgess. The final was 30-22 in favour of the Rough Riders and gave them sole hold on 3rd place in the CFL Eastern Division.
