At Hornet Field in Sacramento on Saturday, the Edmonton Eskimos visited the Sacramento Gold Miners in front of 15,914 fans and dashed their hopes of making CFL history by being the 1st U.S. team in League history to make the playoffs. Edmonton opened the scoring early in the first quarter when WR Trent Brown hauled in a 58-yard pass from QB Damon Allen but Sacramento came back to answer when WR Titus Dixon was on the receiving end of a 9-yard pass from QB David Archer. In the second quarter, Edmonton K Sean Fleming hit for a single off a 49-yard missed field goal attempt and Sacramento K Jim Crouch hit a FG from 18 yards to give the Gold Miners a 10-8 lead at the half. After the half though it was all Edmonton as they struck for 17 consecutive points on the strength of a 45-yard Fleming FG, a 71-yard TD pass from Allen to WR Eddie Brown, and a 37-yard TD pass to WR “Gizmo” Williams before Crouch ended the streak by kicking a 22-yarder for a FG. In the 4th, it was again all Edmonton as they hit for another Brown TD from 11 yards on a toss from Allen, and also scored a safety with less than a minute to play to make the score 34-13 for Edmonton.
