Thanksgiving Monday was a day that the Toronto Argonauts were hoping would turn a new leaf for road games. Owners of 15 consecutive road losses, the Argonauts desperately needed a win, taking Ottawa’s loss into consideration in order to make up ground for a playoff spot as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats played host to the Argos at Ivor Wynne Stadium in front of 18,425 fans. Toronto got off to a solid start as they opened the scoring with 2 FGs from K Lance Chomyc from 42 and 40 yards, before Hamilton was able to manage a single from K Paul Osbaldiston in the 2nd quarter. The Tiger-Cats continued their run as QB Lee Saltz hit WR Lonzell Hill on a 10-yard pass and FB Paul Bushey ran it in from 1 yard out before Chomyc kicked a 39-yarder to close out the half with the score 15-9 for the Tiger-Cats. In the 2nd half, Osbaldiston kicked a 22-yarder before Toronto came back with TD from QB Reggie Slack to WR Manny Hazard on a 48-yard pass. Chomyc added a 33-yard field goal and K Hank Ilesic kicked a single before Osbaldiston kicked a 14-yarder of his own to make the score 21-20 with Toronto having the ball. However, with less than 1 minute remaining, Hamilton CB Gary Wilkerson intercepted a Slack pass and returned it 20 yards for a TD to make the score 28-20. The Argos tried a last second Hail Mary but the pass was knocked out of the receiver’s hands in the end zone and Hamilton prevailed 28-20 over their cross town rivals.
