For the 3rd consecutive week, the Toronto Argonauts had a chance to move ahead of the Ottawa Rough Riders in the CFL’s Eastern Division as Ottawa had lost earlier and Sacramento had already been eliminated from a post-season appearance in the Western Division. Toronto started the game on a positive note as QB Tracy Ham ran the ball in from 21 yards out and K Lance Chomyc kicked a 52-yd single to put Toronto up 8-0. But Sacramento came back late in the quarter to score a TD as QB David Archer hit WR James Pruitt from 46 yards to cut into the Toronto lead. In the 2nd, Toronto again got on the board when Chomyc missed a 51-yd FG for a single and RB Mike Clemons grabbed an 11-yard TD pass from Ham. Sacramento found their gear though and scored 2 more TDs before the half as Archer threw TD passes of 17 and 20 yards to WR Rod Harris and WR Joe Howard Johnson to put the Gold Miners up 21-16 at the intermission. In the 3rd, the Miners hit a 30-yd FG when K Jim Crouch put it through the uprights and Archer ran one in himself from 1 yard out and also hit Johnson for his 2nd of the day from 7 yards out. Toronto managed one last score as WR Manny Hazard caught a 17-yd pass and Clemons ran the ball in for a 2-pt convert but that would not be enough as the Miners won their 5th game of the year.
