Game Notes

Game Summary

At SkyDome on Halloween, the Argonauts were hoping to scare a win out of the Roughriders and get a hold of sole possession of 3rd place in the Eastern division and a possible playoff berth. The 29,348 fans in attendance saw Toronto get on the board less than a minute into the game as WR Manny Hazard hauled in a 46-yard pass from QB Reggie Slack but the Roughriders were able to counter with 2 FGs from K Dave Ridgway on distances of 22 and 19 yards to cut the Argo lead to 1 point. In the 2nd quarter, SB Ray Elgaard grabbed a 9-yard pass from QB Kent Austin to give Saskatchewan its first lead of the day. However, the Argos got a FG from K Lance Chomyc of 27-yards and a TD when Slack hit Andre Brown for a TD. The Roughriders scored another TD when WR Don Narcisse grabbed a 20-yard pass from Austin which the Argos countered with a 45-yard Chomyc FG to even the score at 20-20 at the half. In the second half, the Roughriders were able to score a FG in the 3rd quarter from 11 yards away, and then in the 4th they scored a TD when Darrell Wallace ran into the end zone from 11 yards to give Saskatchewan a 10 point lead with just over 14 minutes to play. Unfortunately the Argos could only manage a FG from 27 yards away and were not able to cap off another drive near the end of the game as Saskatchewan prevailed with a 30-23 count. Austin went 41-of-55 for 507 yards to tie the League record for the Most Pass Completions in One Game, held by Dieter Brock, while Narcisse became the first player to catch for over 1,000 yards in five consecutive seasons as he racked up 15 catches for 199 yards and 1 TD.
