Game Notes

Game Summary

In the League Standings this match up looked one sided with Edmonton sporting a 3-0 record while San Antonio was at 1-2. However, after looking deeper into the stats, both teams were even in most offensive and defensive areas — Edmonton sitting as as light favourite. Eskimo kicker Sean Fleming opened the scoring hitting a 10 yard field goal and capitalizing on an early San Antonio fumble. The Eskimos again took advantage of a turnover following an interception by Morris Lolar. Kerwin Bell capped a seven play drive with a 8 yard touchdown pass to Michael Soles. Fleming converted the play. Fleming hit his second of four field goals on Edmonton’s next possession from 33 yards. The Esks’ special teams got on the scoresheet when Joe Garten sent a punt snap over Todd Jordan’s head. Morris Lolar recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchdown. Fleming again converted the touchdown. With 4:44 left in the second quarter the Texans finally got on the board. David Archer connected with Joe Kralik for a 12 yard touchdown pass. Roman Anderson converted the play. Fleming split the uprights for his third time in the game from 52 yards to give Edmonton a 23 to 7 lead. Roman Anderson hit two field goals to round out the scoring for the first half; one from 40 yards and the second from 49 yards. Edmonton led San Antonio 23 to 13 at the half. The Texans started their comeback earlier in the third quarter with Archer taking the ball in himself for the major. Again, Anderson converted. Edmonton managed to score a single on a missed 51 yard field goal before Roman Anderson made good on three more field goals from 44, 27, and 19 yards respectively. Fleming brought Edmonton back within a field goal of San Antonio by hitting a three from 46 yards. It wasn’t enough though as Anderson booted another field goal, this time from 10 yards, to seal the victory. San Antonio handed Edmonton their first loss bringing their own record up to .500 at 2 wins – 2 losses.
