Game Notes

Game Summary

The Eskimos and Tiger Cats thrilled fans at Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton on Friday night as they fought a seesaw battle through wind and rain. Edmonton opened the scoring with Lucius Floyd catching a 10 yard pass from kicker Glenn Harper. Sean Fleming hit the convert. Hamilton fought back to tie the game when Eric Carter thrilled fans running an interception back 102 yards for the score. Paul Osbaldiston converted. With no time left on the clock in the first quarter Fleming booted a 24 yard field goal to give the Eskimos the lead again. Osbaldiston hammered a punt 67 yards to score a single and bring the Tabbies within two. Sean Fleming hit his second field goal of the day from 40 yards out to extend Edmonton’s lead. Again Hamilton fought back. Earl Winfield topped a seven play drive with a 5 yard TD catch from replacement quarterback Steve Taylor. After a foiled two-point convert attempt, Hamilton took their first lead of the game to the locker room at half time. Edmonton’s Fleming hit his third field goal to take back the lead late in the third quarter. He booted this one from 50 yards out. Early in the fourth quarter, Osbaldiston countered with a 24 yard field goal to regain the Hamilton lead. Headed to the lead with a single, as a 35 yard attempt went wide. Hamilton could not slow Edmonton down. Michael Soles ran in from the 1-yard line to cap a 75 yard drive. With the convert, the Esks held the lead 23 to 18. Sean Fleming sealed the victory with 1:10 left in the game hitting a 35 yard field goal; his fourth on four attempts.
