Game Notes

Game Summary

With both teams tied in the South Division standings, this game should have been very close. Predictions were that a last minute field goal would win the game. This did not happen. Birmingham was plagued by turnovers and Baltimore dominated the play. Carlos Huerta opened the scoring for Baltimore hitting a 14 yard field goal early in the game. QB Tracy Ham threw the first of three TD passes to Shannon Culver minutes later covering 45 yards. Huerta kicked the convert. Huerta made his second field goal later in the first quarter from 45 yards out giving the Stallions the lead at the end of the first quarter 13 to 0. Birmingham got on the board with a single when kicker Franco Grilla missed a 32 yard field goal attempt. Ham’s second TD pass came at 10:16 of the second quarter connecting with Chris Armstrong over 5 yards. Huerta made good on another convert. Birmingham QB Matt Dunigan hooked up with Delius Morris for the ’Cudas only touchdown of the day. The passing play covered 28 yards. Grilla booted the extra point which ended up being the last time Birmingham would score. With time running out in the first half Ham and Armstrong got together again, this time for an 11 yard passing touchdown. Huerta converted making the score at half time Baltimore 27, Birmingham 8. Huerta, who went 4 for 5 in the game, hit from 27 yards out for his third field goal of the game. In the fourth quarter, Huerta’s only missed field goal attempt counted for a single. Stallion linebacker O.J. Brigance sacked Dunigan in the end zone to score a safety at the midway point of the fourth quarter. Huerta’s final field goal attempt ended the Stallions’ scoring on the day, as he made good from 35 yards. Baltimore convincingly stepped into first place in the South with this trouncing of second place Birmingham
