30,000 people filed into Commonwealth Stadium Friday night looking for their Eskimos to hold on to their third place position in the Northern Division. The struggling Roughriders proved to be no match for coach Ron Lancaster’s explosive offence. Saskatchewan opened the scoring with Dave Ridgway making a 37 yard field goal attempt. Eskimo WR Shalon Baker gave his team the lead scoring an 8 yard touchdown on a pass from Chris Vargas. Sean Fleming kicked the field goal. Ridgway again opened the scoring sending a 32 yard field goal through. Less than a minute later Vargas threw a 67 yard pass to Nick Mazzoli to extend Edmonton’s lead. Fleming kicked the convert. Edmonton extended their lead to 9 points following a Fleming 40 yard missed field goal. Edmonton did the only scoring of the third quarter. Fleming made good from 19 yards out and Vargas hit Baker for his second TD pass of the game. This one covered 7 yards just as time ran out in the quarter. Fleming’s convert was good. Saskatchewan got their only TD of the game on an 18 yard passing play from Tom Burgess to Elbert Turner. Ridgway’s convert was good. Edmonton got on the board once more scoring a touchdown on a 44 yard passing play. Vargas threw to Lucius Floyd for the major. Fleming hit the point after giving Edmonton the victory 32 to 13.
