Game Notes

Game Summary

23,000 fans filed into Ivor Wynne Stadium Saturday evening on a beautiful night for a football game. What they didn’t expect was that the Baltimore Stallions were out to clobber the Tiger-Cats. Baltimore recorded the only scoring of the first quarter at the 10:00 mark. RB Mike Pringle carried the ball in from the 3-yard line. With Carlos Huerta’s convert, the Stallions led 7 to 0 heading into the second frame. Baltimore totally dominated the second quarter scoring 24 points compared to Hamilton’s paltry 7 points. The first two touchdowns were scored by Pringle on runs of 24 and 2 yards respectively. Huerta converted both majors. Huerta booted his first of two field goals for the day from 38 yards out to increase the Baltimore lead. Seconds later, Hamilton long snapper Blaine Schmidt sent the ball over punter Paul Osbaldiston’s head. DB Ken Watson fell on the ball in the end zone for the touchdown. Huerta kicked the convert to round out Baltimore’s scoring for the half. Hamilton did manage to get on the board before the end of the half as Anthony Calvillo connected with Larry Thompson for a 60 yard touchdown passing play. Osbaldiston kicked the convert. The only scoring in the third quarter came from the foot of Carlos Huerta. He booted a 43 yard field goal for the Stallions. The fourth quarter saw the teams trade touchdowns. Pringle ran in his fourth TD of the game from the 10-yard line. Huerta’s convert made the Stallions final score 41. Steve Taylor threw a pass 30 yards to Lee Knight to put a second TD on the board for Hamilton. Baltimore’s 41 to 14 romp of Hamilton moved them into a 4 point lead over Birmingham and San Antonio in the Southern Division.
