Game Summary

The Southern Division leading Baltimore Stallions were looking to Robert Drummond to fill Mike Pringle’s shoes and lead them to a win over the second place Birmingham Barracudas. The first half was very low scoring with only six points being put on the board. Baltimore kicker Carlos Huerta booted an 18 yard field goal to open the scoring. The Stallion defence scored 2 more points when O.J. Brigance sacked Matt Dunigan in the end zone for a safety. In the second quarter, Birmingham punter Scott Player sent a kick into the Baltimore end zone where Chris Wright conceded the single. In the third quarter ’Cuda kicker Luis Zendejas kicked a 30 yard field goal to bring Birmingham within 1 of Baltimore. Stallion kicker Huerta put a 37 yard field goal attempt through the uprights before Zendejas brought the ’Cudas back with a 42 yard field goal. Huerta again put the Stallion lead at 4 points as he kicked a 38 yard field goal. Birmingham took their first lead of the game at 9:09 of the third quarter. Matt Dunigan threw a 35 yard pass to Marcus Grant for the major. Zendejas kicked the convert. A minute later, Zendejas booted a 33 yard field goal to extend the Barracuda lead to 6 points at the end of the quarter. Baltimore took the lead back early in the fourth quarter when Wright caught a 20 yard pass from Tracy Ham and Huerta kicked the convert. Zendejas kicked his fourth FG of the game, this time from 25 yards out, to regain the lead for Birmingham. Baltimore took the lead again on a TD pass from Tracy Ham. The recipient this time was Chris Armstrong on a 4 yard play. Huerta kicked the convert. Huerta sealed the victory for the Stallions with a 24 yard field goal with 1:26 left to play. Baltimore bettered their record to 9 wins and 3 losses giving them a 6 point lead over second place.
