Game Notes

Game Summary

The match up between first and worst in the Southern Division was being billed as a potential blowout but the Shreveport Pirates proved once again that they are much better than their record implies. Baltimore came out on top but barely held off Shreveport’s late comeback. The Stallion’s Mike Pringle opened the scoring with a 1 yard touchdown run on Baltimore’s first possession of the game. Carlos Huerta booted the convert. At the 9:13 mark of the first quarter punter Josh Miller sent a 52 yard punt into the end zone for a single. Baltimore continued to dominate the scoring in the second quarter. DB Brian White recovered a loose ball created by Matt Goodwin blocking Robbie Keen’s punt. White took the ball 20 yards into the end zone for the major. Huerta kicked the convert. Huerta got on the board again later in the quarter as he kicked a 32 yard field goal giving Baltimore an 18 to 0 lead at half time. Huerta opened the scoring in the second half with another field goal. This time from 40 yards out. Shreveport kicker Bjorn Nittmo got the ball rolling for the Pirates putting a 43 yard field goal attempt through the uprights. Baltimore put their last points on the board with no time left on the clock in the third quarter. Huerta brought their point total to 24 with a 24 yard field goal. Shreveport began their comeback in the fourth quarter with a 28 yard touchdown run by Norman Bradford. Nittmo kicked the convert. WR Wayne Walker put another TD on the score sheet carrying the ball in from the 38-yard line. Again, Nittmo kicked the convert. With Shreveport coming back to within a TD of Baltimore, the Stallions were able to hold the Pirates off for the last three minutes of the game to preserve the win. Josh Miller was the big story of the game punting 8 times for a 56.7 yard average.
