Game Notes

Game Summary

The fight for home field advantage in the playoffs rages between B.C. and Edmonton. Entering this game the two teams were tied with 18 points each. A win for Edmonton would put them in control of their own destiny. B.C. has a game in hand but Edmonton would win if the tie breaking process is needed. The Lions opened scoring in the game with a touchdown as Zed Robinson carried the ball in from the 14-yard line. Lui Passaglia kicked the convert. Passaglia came to the line again sending a 20 yard field goal attempt through the uprights. Edmonton fought back scoring on the first play of the second quarter. QB Kerwin Bell took the ball in from the 1-yard line for the major. Sean Fleming kicked the convert. Minutes later Fleming sent a 33 yard field goal try through the uprights to tie the game. Later in the half, Fleming attempted another field goal. His 47 yard kick missed wide but went through the end zone to score a single and give the Eskimos the lead going into half-time. B.C. kicker Passaglia did the only scoring of the third quarter. He kicked three field goals, from 24, 28, and 20 yards respectively, to take the lead back for the Lions. Fleming sent a 35 yard field goal through the uprights for Edmonton to leave them trailing by 5. His next attempt, from 40 yards out at the 8:11 mark of the fourth quarter, missed but did score a single. Edmonton RB Michael Soles regained the Eskimos lead with a 12 yard touchdown run. Fleming’s convert put the Eskimos ahead by 3. With only 1:36 on the clock Robert Gordon made an outstanding catch in the end zone to steal the lead for the Lions. Passaglia kicked the convert. With only 0:36 on the clock Passaglia sent his fifth field goal through putting the Lions up by a converted touchdown. As dejected Eskimo fans filed out of Commonwealth Stadium, Kerwin Bell was engineering a 75 yard drive. Bell took the Esks down field on three plays and carried the ball in from the 1-yard line himself for the major. Fleming kicked the convert as fans began to file back into the Stadium for overtime. Edmonton got the early jump in OT with a 12 yard Sean Fleming field goal. B.C. answered back with a 75 yard passing TD from Danny McManus to SB Matt Clark. Passaglia kicked the convert. Edmonton continued to keep fans on the edge of their seats. WR Shalon Baker took the ball in from the 15-yard line for the touchdown that turned out to be the game winner. Fleming kicked the convert giving the Eskimos the victory by a 4 point margin. This thrilling OT victory puts Edmonton in sole possession of second place in the Northern Division.
