Legion Field in Birmingham Alabama was the site for this weekends match up between the Barracudas and the Shreveport Pirates. Pirates WR Freeman Baysinger got the game under way with a bang. He returned the opening kick off 86 yards for a touchdown. Bjorn Nittmo’s convert gave Shreveport an early 7 point lead. ’Cuda QB Matt Dunigan marched the team back to tie later in the quarter. The drive was capped with a 4 yard TD pass to Keith Woodside. Luis Zendejas kicked the convert. Pirate kicker Nittmo hit a 23 yard field goal to regain the lead for Shreveport. No scoring in the second quarter left it 10 to 7 for Shreveport at the half. Scoring picked up in the second half. Zendejas hit field goals from 37 and 44 yards to take the lead for Birmingham. Dunigan threw his second TD pass of the game, this time to Marcus Grant covering 31 yards. Zendejas kicked the convert. Barracuda WR Jason Phillips was the recipient of Dunigan’s next TD pass. Again, Zendejas sent the convert through. Nittmo booted his second FG of the game for the Pirates from 42 yards out. Barracuda QB finished off an outstanding day with a 71 yard TD pass to Eddie Britton in the fourth quarter. Zendejas’ convert brought the ’Cudas final total to 34 for the day. Shreveport made up some of the deficit with a late touchdown by QB B.J. Tolliver. His 1 yard run and subsequent convert by Nittmo gave the Pirates 20 points for the day. The win for Birmingham put them in sole possession of the coveted third place in the Southern Division.
