Game Notes

Game Summary

A win for the Stallions would clinch first place in the South Division and secure home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Saskatchewan, on the other hand needs a win to remain in the tight race for the final playoff spot in the North Division. The Roughriders came out strongly, dominating the play in the first half. Dave Ridgway opened the scoring for Saskatchewan hitting an 11 yard field goal. With time running out in the first quarter Warren Jones and Donald Narcisse hooked up for a 5 yard touchdown passing play for Saskatchewan. Ridgway kicked the convert. Jones and Narcisse connected for a second time in the game part way through the second quarter. Again, a 5 yard pass put a TD on the board for the Roughriders. Ridgway’s convert gave Saskatchewan a 17 to 0 lead. The CFL’s leading punt returner Chris Wright added to his impressive totals with an 89 yard punt return for a touchdown. Carlos Huerta kicked the convert making the score 17 to 7 for Saskatchewan at half-time. Baltimore fought back in the third quarter. Huerta kicked 3 field goals to bring the Stallions within one point of the Roughriders. His attempts were from 29, 38, and 28 yards respectively. Newly acquired Stallion WR Gerald Alphin caught a 26 yard pass from Tracy Ham to take the lead for the first time in the game. Huerta kicked the convert. In the fourth quarter, Saskatchewan SB Dan Farthing caught a 9 yard pass from Jones and scampered in for the major. Ridgway’s convert put the ’Riders ahead by 1. Stallion kicker Huerta regained the lead with a 32 yard field goal. The ’Riders fought back taking the lead once again with an 11 yard field goal. With 0:05 on the clock, Carlos Huerta went to the line to attempt a 21 yard field goal and win the game for Baltimore. His attempt split the uprights securing the Stallions of home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
