Game Notes

Game Summary

The Toronto Argonauts entered this week trailing the Winnipeg Blue Bombers by 6 points in the North Division standings. This game, the first of a home and home series, is a crucial one for the Argos if they want to remain mathematically eligible for the playoffs. The teams came out playing defensive football for the first quarter as no points were scored. Winnipeg kicker Troy Westwood opened the scoring with a 24 yard field goal. Mike “Pinball” Clemons got Toronto on the board minutes later carrying the ball in from the 1-yard line. Terry Baker kicked the convert. Winnipeg regained the lead with 3:00 left in the half as Blaise Bryant carried the ball in from the 6-yard line. Westwood kicked the convert. The seesaw battle continued with Toronto SB Jeff Fairholm catching a 23 yard pass from Kent Austin. Baker’s convert made the score 14 to 10 for Toronto at half-time. Winnipeg got to 1 point behind Toronto in the third quarter when Westwood kicked a 45 yard field goal. “Pinball” Clemons got his second TD of the game catching an 8 yard pass from Austin. Baker’s convert took the Argo lead to 8 heading into the fourth quarter. “Pinball” worked his magic again in the fourth quarter carrying the ball in from the 1-yard line for a touchdown. Baker kicked the convert. Winnipeg RB Bryant scored his second rushing TD of the game taking the bail in from the 1-yard line. Westwood’s convert made the Bombers final score 20. Toronto managed to put 3 more points on the board as time ran out. Baker sent a 48 yard field goal attempt through the uprights sealing the victory for the Argos.
