Game Notes

Game Summary

17,000 dedicated Rider fans sat through driving rain in Ottawa’s Frank Clair Stadium on Saturday pushing their team to its third win of the season. Ottawa scored first when Wayne Lammle sent a 46 yard field goal attempt through the uprights. The Riders’ defence caused a safety later in the quarter. Hank Ilesic conceded the two points following some solid defensive play by Ottawa. Lammle missed his second and third field goal attempts but did manage to score the singles on both. Hamilton got on the board late in the second quarter following a 75 yard drive. Kalin Hall capped the drive with a 1 yard TD run. Paul Osbaldiston kicked the convert to tie the game. Lammle made good on his fourth FG attempt sending a 32 yard shot through to open scoring in the second half. Midway through the quarter Osbaldiston attempted a 32 yard field goal but missed wide scoring a single. Ottawa extended their lead with their first TD of the game. SB Ken Evraire blocked an Ilesic punt and returned the ball 27 yards into the end zone. Lammle’s convert was good. As time ran out in the third quarter, Osbaldiston attempted a 34 yard field goal but missed wide. Remi Trudel conceded the single. Ottawa totally dominated the fourth quarter. Lammle hit field goals from 23 and 35 yards putting the Riders ahead by 14. Sammy Garza sealed the win for Ottawa throwing a 13 yard TD pass to Ray Alexander. Lammle’s convert made the final 30 to 9 for Ottawa.
