The Edmonton Eskimos shattered any hopes the Memphis Mad Dogs had of making the playoffs with a 25 to 14 win Thursday night. Memphis scored first when Nick Mystrom missed a 43 yard field goal but recorded a single. Later in the quarter Mystrom made sure of his second field goal attempt sending a 24 yard shot through the uprights. Edmonton got three points back early in the second quarter when Sean Fleming hit a 14 yard field goal. Mystrom sent his third field goal attempt through for Memphis later in the quarter from 30 yards out. Edmonton put the first TD on the board with just 0:29 left in.the half. Chris Vargas threw a 7 yard pass to Chris George for the major. Fleming kicked the convert. Both teams recorded singles in the third quarter from missed field goals. The fourth quarter saw Edmonton pull from their trick plays. Vargas laterals to Eddie Brown who in turn connected with Jim Sandusky for a 78 yard touchdown pass. Fleming’s convert attempt was good. Memphis managed to make up some of the deficit with two more field goals. Mystrom scored from 19 and 29 yards out to bring the Mad Dogs within 4 points of the Eskimos. Edmonton sealed the victory with their third passing touchdown of the game. Vargas connected with Marc Tobert over 2 yards for the score. Fleming’s convert made the final 25 to 14 for the Eskimos.
