Ottawa’s new Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator John Payne was looking to turn things around for the Rough Riders as they hosted the B.C. Lions Friday night. Ottawa QB David Archer came out strong for the Riders moving them down field for a touchdown on their first possession. Fullback Lee Knight capped the drive with a 10 yard reception. Wayne Lammle kicked the convert. B.C. fought their way back scoring a touchdown with no time left in the first quarter. Andre Ware and Sean Millington connected for the 25 yard passing play. Passaglia kicked the convert. Minutes later, Ottawa regained the lead as Lammle scored a single when his 35 yard field goal attempt went wide. B.C. began to dominate for the rest of the second and third quarters. Millington ran the ball one yard for his second TD of the game to regain the lead for the Lions. Passaglia kicked the convert and later in the quarter booted a 15 yard field goal to put B.C. ahead by 9 at the half. Ottawa did manage two field goal attempts in the third. Lammle missed from 23 yards but did score a single and hit the next attempt from 20 yards out. The final 5 minutes of the quarter belonged to Andre Ware. Millington scored his third TD of the game taking a 38 yard pass into the end zone. Ware then capitalized on a fumble by Archer. On the second play following the fumble recovery Ware hit Mike Trevathan for a 21 yard touchdown. Passaglia converted both TDs. Down by 19 heading into the fourth quarter, the Riders were determined to get a win for their new coach. Lee Knight began the comeback for Ottawa with a 1 yard touchdown run early in the quarter. A bad snap halted the convert attempt. At 9:19, Knight put his third TD on the board for the Riders. Archer hit Knight down the middle for a 46 yard passing touchdown. Lammle’s convert attempt was good. Continuing to dominate on offence and defence, Ottawa scored the tying touchdown with only 0:18 on the clock. Archer sent his third TD pass into the end zone, this time Joe Rogers was on the receiving end. Lammle’s convert game the Riders a 1 point lead. The Lions fought hard for the win during the final seconds of the game. Verdin’s long kickoff return and 6 yard pass gave Passaglia a 51 yard field goal attempt for the win. The kick came up just short giving Ottawa their first win of the season.
