Game Notes

Game Summary

The B.C. Lions signed outstanding QB Damon Allen in hopes of rejuvenating the club from their early season slump. Although Allen made a big difference, throwing for 282 yards and 3 touchdowns, the Lions came up short against the Tiger-Cats whose dominating air attack has them atop the East Division. Allen started off strong taking advantage of a blown coverage by the Tiger-Cat defence. Allen hit a wide open Mike Trevathan for a 33 yard passing touchdown. Lui Passaglia kicked the convert. Not to be out done, Matt Dunigan moved the ball back up field and connected with Earl Winfield for an 18 yard touchdown. Paul Osbaldiston kicked the convert. The Tabbies took a slim lead before the end of the quarter as Osbaldiston missed a 48 yard field goal attempt but scored a single. Osbaldiston made sure of his next attempt, sending a 26 yard attempt through early in the second for Hamilton. The Lions battled back getting Passaglia into field goal range and he capitalized by hitting a 49 yard attempt. Ahead by 1, the Tabbies looked to gain some ground before half time. Osbaldiston sent a 22 yard kick through the uprights extending Hamilton’s lead. Minutes later, Dunigan hooked up with WR Jason Phillips for a 15 yard major. Osbaldiston kicked the convert. B.C. scored the only points of the third quarter on a 5 yard touchdown pass from Allen to Mario Bailey. Passaglia’s convert narrowed the gap to 5 points in Hamilton’s favour. B.C.’s Trevathan notched his second TD of the game putting the Lions into the lead early in the final quarter. Passaglia’s convert attempt was good. Dunigan promptly moved the ball back into the Lions end zone regaining the lead for the Tiger-Cats. Dunigan capped the drive by carrying the ball in himself from the 2-yard line. Osbaldiston kicked the convert. The game was sealed minutes later when Sam Rogers intercepted a pass intended for Trevathan in the Hamilton end zone.
