Game Notes

Game Summary

The Lions entered the game with a 1-6 record and desperately needed a win to stay in the playoff hunt in the Western Division. Meanwhile, the Bombers sat in a second place tie with the Edmonton Eskimos at 4-3. The Lions looked impressive early as K Lui Passaglia got them on the score board with a 29 yard FG at 2:45 of the opening frame. The Lions added to their lead at 6:47 when SB Matt Clark hooked up with QB Damon Allen for a 13 yard TD putting the Leo’s up by 10 after one quarter. The Bombers cut into that lead at 7:14 of the second period when WR Myron Wise ran under QB Kent Austin’s 35 yard pass. K Troy Westwood added the convert making the score 10-7 in favour of the Lions. Passaglia hit his second FG of the game at 11:48, this one from 33 yards away to increase B.C.’s lead to 6. However, with just 16 seconds remaining in the first half, LB Darnell Small picked off an errant Damon Allen pass and scampered 34 yards for the major. Westwood would add the convert sending the Bombers’ into the locker room with a slim 14-13 lead. The only scoring in the third quarter came at 11:37 when RB Michael Richardson came out of the backfield and hooked up with Austin for a 15 yard TD strike. Westwood added the convert to increase the Bombers’ lead to 21-13. Winnipeg continued their second half domination when Richardson plunged in from 1 yard out. Westwood added his third convert of the night to run the lead to 28-13. Wise then added his second TD of the game, this one a 10 yard TD pass from QB Reggie Slack. Westwood added the convert and would go on to close out the scoring with a 19 yard FG making the final 38-13 in favour of the Bombers. With the win the Bombers improved their record to 5-3, while the Lions dropped to 1-7.
