The Hamilton Tiger-Cats needed a win on Friday to take sole possession of second place in the East but had the odds stacked against them with many injuries throughout their line-up. Rookie QB Larry Jusdanis started the game for the Tabbies, backed up by newly acquired CFL veteran Marvin Graves. Calgary, on the other hand, were looking to remain tied with the Toronto Argonauts for first place overall and have a powerful, veteran team to keep them on top. Hamilton scored first as Jusdanis drove the team into field goal range on Hamilton’s first possession. K Paul Osbaldiston sent a 22 yard attempt through the uprights for the early lead. Late in the quarter, Calgary took the lead from the Tiger-Cats and would not look back. The Stamps moved the ball 65 yards, capping the drive with a 3 yard TD run by Kelvin Anderson. Mark McLoughlin kicked the convert. Early in the second quarter Calgary scored again as they capitalized on a fumble recovery by Darryl Hall. Jeff Garcia hit Allen Pitts for a 25 yard passing touchdown. McLoughlin kicked the convert and answered the call again minutes later with a 29 yard field goal. Hamilton scrapped right back at the 11:51 mark of the second when Jusdanis threw his first CFL TD pass as a starter. Jusdanis hit Mac Cody with a 19 yard pass for the major. Osbaldiston kicked the convert. As time ran out in the half, Calgary extended their lead with a 30 yard field goal. Calgary put on a clinic in the second half outscoring Hamilton 27 to 0. McLoughlin was good on two more field goals from 44 and 22 yards respectively. Anderson extended his lead as the CFL touchdown scoring leader with 6 yard run. WR Terry Vaughn also got on the scoresheet late in the third with a 40 yard TD reception from Garcia. Calgary’s final touchdown of the night came on a 33 yard interception return by outstanding DB Marvin Coleman. McLoughlin went 5 for 5 converting all of the Calgary majors. The final was 47 to 10 for the impressive Calgary Stampeders who remain tied atop the CFL at 7 wins and 1 loss.
