Game Notes

Game Summary

Montreal’s Olympic Stadium was the site of this match-up between the Alouettes and Lions. The Lions came into this game fresh off a bye week looking to upset the Alouettes who came into the game wanting to get over the .500 mark. Montreal kicker Terry Baker and B.C. hoofer Lui Passaglia traded field goals of 42 and 17 yards respectively to open up the scoring. Baker gave the Als their first lead at 10:52 with a 64 yard single. The Lions then roared back with just 41 seconds remaining in the first quarter when RB Sean Millington plunged over from 1 yard away. The Passaglia convert made the score 10 to 4 in favour of the Lions after one period of play. Montreal RB Mike Pringle tied the game at 10 just thirty five seconds into the second quarter when he galloped into the end zone for a 13 yard TD. Baker’s convert gave the Als a slim one point lead. The Lions then countered back with a touchdown of their own at 14:28 when Millington scored his second TD of the game, yet another 1 yard rush. Passaglia added the convert to make the score 17 to 11 in favour of the Lions at the half. The Lions added to that lead early in the third quarter as Allen scrambled out of the pocket and took off for a 15 yard rushing major. However, the Alouettes would not give in. Pringle scored his second rushing TD of the game at 6:14, a 65 yard run. The Baker convert cut the Lions’ lead to just 6. The Lions increased that lead to 9 when Passaglia hit on a 25 yard FG on the final play of the third quarter. The fourth quarter belonged to the Alouettes. After a Baker 44 yard FG at 3:06, the Als hung tough and at 11:53 tied the game when RB Michael Soles scored an 11 yard rushing TD. Baker added the convert and Montreal hung on to record a 28 to 27 win.
