Game Notes

Game Summary

It was snowing and blowing at Regina last Sunday. OK, it wasn’t snowing but the 50 km/h wind ripped through Taylor Field wreaking havoc on the battle of the Riders. Ottawa was looking to improve their record to 3-8 while their western counterparts were looking to stay in the playoff hunt. An Ottawa safety touch at 6:39 of the opening frame turned out to be the only scoring of the first quarter. Ottawa increased their lead to 3 thirteen seconds into the second quarter when K Wayne Lammle booted a single. Saskatchewan grabbed the lead at 6:40 when WR Rod Harris corralled a Lammle punt and returned it 58 yards for the major score. K Frank Jagas added the convert putting the Western ’Riders up by 4. Jagas then rounded out the first half scoring with two field goals from 24 and 12 yards out putting the Green ’Riders up 13-3. Saskatchewan offset Ottawa’s safety with one of their own at 8:01 of the third quarter giving them a 16-4 lead after three periods of play. The two teams traded singles to open the fourth quarter scoring before Ottawa RB Profail Grier hooked up with QB David Archer for a 9 yard receiving TD. The Lammle convert cut the Saskatchewan lead to just 5. Ottawa capped off their comeback with just 49 seconds remaining when SB Robert Gordon and Archer hooked up for a 22 yard touchdown. Lammle added the convert to make the final 18-16 in favour of the Eastern Riders.
