Game Notes

Game Summary

For both the Roughriders and the Lions, this game was categorized as a must win. Both teams entered this match with identical 3-9 records and a win was critical to any playoff hopes that either team may have. The 21,221 in attendance saw the Lions jump out to a 7-0 first quarter lead when RB Sean Millington plunged in from 1 yard out at 7:10. K Lui Passaglia added the convert to round out the first quarter scoring. Passaglia was a busy man in the second quarter as he accounted for all 5 of the Lions’ points in the form of 2 singles and a 25 yard field goal. At the end of the first half the Lions were on top by a 12-0 margin. Saskatchewan finally got on the scoreboard at 7:47 of the third frame when K Frank Jagas booted a 37 yard field goal. RB Robert Mimbs got the ’Riders closer when he rambled 34 yards for a TD at 10:57. The Jagas convert trimmed the Lions’ lead to just 2 after three quarters of play. However, this was as close as Saskatchewan would get. Passaglia wasted no time getting the Lions back on track in the fourth quarter connecting from 45 yards out to increase their lead to 5. LB Virgil Robertson put the game out of reach at 8:57 when he stepped in front of a QB Heath Rylance pass and returned it 41 yards for the major score. Passaglia’s convert rounded out the scoring giving the Lions a well deserved 22-10 victory and in turn, keeping their playoffs hopes alive.
