Game Notes

Game Summary

26,161 Blue Bomber faithful turned out on this lovely Thanksgiving Sunday in hopes of seeing their hometown Bombers defeat the visiting Roughriders. Both teams struggled offensively in the first quarter, with the only scoring coming off a Troy Westwood 46 yard single. The ’Riders opened up the second quarter scoring thanks to a Frank Jagas 44 yard field goal. Winnipeg tied the game at 11:20 when Saskatchewan punter, Brent Matich, retreated into his own end zone and conceded the safety touch. Jagas would restore the ’Riders’ lead on the final play of the half splitting the uprights from 30 yards out making the score 6-3 in favour of Saskatchewan. The games first TD occurred at 3:51 of the third quarter when Winnipeg RB Leonard Jean-Pierre carried it over from five yards away putting the Bombers up by 4. They increased that lead to five following a Westwood kickoff single but the ’Riders regained the lead after Aaron Ruffin corralled a Bob Cameron punt and returned it 82 yards for the TD. This rounded out the third quarter scoring with Saskatchewan on top by a 13-12 margin. Following a Matich single, Winnipeg pivot, Reggie Slack, plunged over from 1 yard out to once again restore the Winnipeg lead. Two Winnipeg singles capped off the games scoring giving the Bombers a hard fought 20-14 victory.
