Hamilton, fresh off its first win of the season last week, hosted the retooled B.C. Lions who entered the game tied for second place in the West. The Lions opened the scoring at 8:48 of the first quarter when RB Cory Philpot scampered into the end zone from 7 yards away. K Lui Passaglia’s convert was good to pace the Lions to the early 7-0 score. The next scoring didn’t come until the first play of the second quarter when Passaglia’s FG sailed wide and DB Kenny Wilhite conceded the single. Passaglia made up for his miss at 2:59 of the same quarter when his 23-yard FG was good to increase the Lion lead to 11. Hamilton’s first points came off the foot of K Paul Osbaldiston who struck a 24-yard FG to make the score 11-3 in favour of the visitors midway through the second quarter. QB Damon Allen, looked sharp as he engineered B.C.’s next scoring drive, giving the ball to FB Sean Millington for a 1-yard rushing TD at 13:39 of the second quarter. Passaglia’s convert was good to increase the Lion lead to 15. During the next drive, Hamilton QB Anthony Calvillo, back in his first game since suffering a concussion in Week #3, threw a 41-yard strike to WR Ashaundai Smith, reducing the Lion lead to 8 after the Osbaldiston convert. Passaglia’s 10-yard FG opened the scoring in the second half, but it was Hamilton who dominated scoring during the third quarter. Calvillo completed a 1-yard pass to DE Gonzalo Floyd, for Hamilton’s second major of the day. The third came on a 26-yard pass from Calvillo to SB Ted Long at 13:27 of the quarter. Osbaldiston was perfect on both converts and Hamilton grabbed their first lead of the night, 24-21 as they entered the final quarter of play. The fourth quarter saw B.C. retake the lead when LB David Maeva returned a fumble recovery 30 yards for the score. Another fumble recovery helped B.C. ice the game when DE Virgil Robertson returned the ball 5 yards for the TD. Passaglia was good on both converts. The final score in the game came on another turnover when Calvillo’s pass for SB Ken Evraire, was intercepted and returned 76 yards for the TD to make the final score 42-24 in favour of the Lions.
